October in Review

In October we…

Enjoyed some fall leaves

Went to “The Pumpkin Walk”

Hadden liked this booth, because the guy was a mail carrier, just like his Grandma used to be!

This was Calla’s favorite.  It’s Pooh Bear when he eats too much honey and gets stuck in Rabbit’s door.

Calla insisted on carving “Calla’s Pumpkin” in her pumpkin.  If you’ve never done this, when the pumpkin is almost full sized, but still green, use a nail or other sharp pointed object to gently carve words into the flesh of your pumpkin.  Later your pumpkin will scar over the carving.  It’s very cool!

She still loves this blankie!

September In Review

In September, Hadden played in his very first piano recital.  He played the song “Sword Dance” By Lynn Freeman Olsen.  He practiced a ton and did a great job.

His teacher gives incentives to the kids if they practice.  They can earn medals and eventually trophies for perfect practice records.

Hadden played outdoor soccer again, but for the first time his age group had a goalie and got to play positions.  It was fun to see the kids get so much better.  Hadden’s favorite position was goalie, but he was best at defender.  He even scored one goal in his last game!  Way to go, Hadden!

August in Review

August always has that “Sunday Night Feeling” for me.  Mostly it’s busy with the garden and trying to preserve all it’s bounty (which is also why the pictures are few and random…), but it’s also the time when school starts again, playing has to be reigned in and real work and schedules need to set back in.  I always feel a little melancholy at the end of August.  Also, it’s the beginning of fall.  And fall means it’s almost winter, sigh.

Visiting the farmer’s market.  For the kids it’s all about the lemon aid, the pastry and…

the music.

One more trip to the splash pad.

Yummy, sugar stick!

IMG00023-20110815-2019

In August, we took our last summer family trip.  We went to the Tetons and stayed at the Signal Mountain Campground.  It was amazing!  We have had several failed trips to this area before, so we were a little nervous that our bad luck would hold, but we finally broke the streak!  We literally had the best campsite in the place (notice the view above and below.  This was literally 20 feet from our trailer spot.

IMG00025-20110816-1146

We did lots of fishing.  Hadden caught a 15 inch rainbow (cuthroat, maybe?) trout.  We are convinced it was an act of God.  This lake he’s fishing in was super shallow.  It was sunny and mid-day.  Not the greatest combo for catching fish.  We’d been there awhile and Hadden insisted on reeling in his line at top speed.  We kept telling him he wouldn’t catch anything that way, but…

IMG00026-20110816-1146

there it is!  He caught it 10 feet from shore and it was big!  It got off the line right at the shore and swam off, so that’s the best picture we got.

IMG00027-20110816-1220

We lost a few floats and Chris went in after one.

IMG00028-20110816-1220

He got it!

Great hikers!

IMG00034-20110816-1427

This is String Lake.  Super shallow, warmer and perfect for sitting and soaking your feet in after a hike!

IMG00035-20110816-1427

Hadden, going as deep as possible, of course.

If you look close you can see Chris and the kids’ heads.  Our kids were amazing hikers on this trip.  It was so fun to hike and hike and hike with them!

Going home.
